Large poultry houses often have a chain feeding system installed. A chain feeding system is a series of troughs that span the house in rows. These troughs are cleverly connected with couplers and run around corners with special units called corner units. The chain runs on power shoes (hardened steel) and is guided around the corners with cast iron wheels. Well made troughs will fit perfectly into the couplers (joining units) and will be 1.2mm thick or more. Driving the chains that run in the trough are powerful motors called power heads.
Once the chain is tightened and running the chicken feed is dropped into the troughs from bins, that get the feed via an auger, that comes from a silo. Chain feeding systems are fairy dangerous in inexperienced hands - one can easily lose an finger if one is not careful!
Feeding a 1000's of chickens is made easy with a chain feeding system - the other system is a pan feeding system.

The chain feeding system is supplied chicken food via an auger (pipe and spirel) that brings the poultry feed from a silo outside the house. The auger drops feed into bins that then drop the chicken food into the galvanised troughs in the poultry house.
